It has always been difficult to find the fine balance of allowing our children to have autonomy while getting them to follow through on the things they need to do. This is even more complicated during these times when we are with them All. The. Time. We are trying to accomplish the impossible tasks of making a living, “homeschooling,” and running a household.

Abiding Presence is sponsoring our 3rd FREE online interactive seminar: Parenting in Northern Virginia—“Getting Through the Day,” to discuss how to manage parenting when our families' lives have been turned upside down.  Our goal in this session is to share some basic tips that may help children follow through with their responsibilities, while minimizing power struggles. Parents of children of any age are welcome to join, but the sessions topics are geared toward school age children. We will incorporate time for discussion.

This session will once again be led via Zoom by Megan and Allie: two school psychologists who work with families in the community, and are parents themselves. The Zoom link is pinned in the announcements of the Event on Facebook or with the button above.

Topics will include practical tips focused on:

  • Prioritizing the tasks to be accomplished in your family

  • Getting kids to follow through on those tasks

  • Avoiding power struggles

It is an extremely challenging time for all of us, and parents are juggling a lot. Let’s support each other through community, connection, and sharing ideas and resources, led by experienced mental health professionals.

This session will be held on Sunday, May 3 from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. Don’t worry—you can mute yourselves! We hereby give permission for a community-wide movie time while Parents connect. Interruptions by children and animals expected.

Interested? Just indicate you are interested via this event invitation! Send any questions to Sarah, Congregational Care Minister, at sarah@abidingpresence.net.
