The need for Mental Health Care is at an all-time high right now, and Abiding Presence is discerning how to be the hands and feet of Christ in addressing this need. Pastor Keseley announced at our annual church meeting that we as a church community will be focusing on two needs this year: hunger, and mental health. In order to follow our call to be Christ to our community, we must first understand what is needed. In response, Pastor Vought and Sarah Snow, Congregational Care Minister, are leading a study during lent that will be a journey through the ELCA social message on "The Body of Christ and Mental Illness." Join us for this 5-week Lenten study. You will learn not only some basics about what mental illness is and looks like, but also how we are called as Christians to respond. OWLs Drive-In Concert

Calling all OWLs (Older, Wiser Lutherans): come out to the Abiding Presence parking lot on Wednesday, November 4 at 1:00 p.m. for a very special drive-in concert by our own Joe McGavin. Joe plays acoustic renditions of your favorites from the '60s, '70s, '80s and beyond.

Here is how to attend this free concert:

  • Sign up using the form found by clicking “read more.” We’ll reserve a parking space for you!

  • Plan to arrive about 15-20 minutes early (around 12:45 p.m.) so you can be directed to your parking space and test your radio.

  • Listen on your radio, just like at a drive-in movie theater! We will broadcast the live concert audio across the parking lot using our low-power FM transmitter, and we’ll give you the FM station as you arrive. All you have to do is tune your radio to our station and be within about 100 feet of the transmitter.

  • Either remain in your car or bring a lawn chair. You can listen on your car radio, and we will also set up a public address sound system near the stage.

Christian Civic Engagement (via Zoom)

September 21 at 1:00 p.m.

Residents of the United States have a responsibility to make government function well; Lutherans see their responsibility in terms of a calling from God. We are called as faithful stewards of our own self-governance, to engage our democracy in a spirit of robust citizenship and not to abandon it. Lutherans consider government as a gift from God intended for the safety and flourishing of human life.” Excerpt from “Discipleship in a Democracy” ELCA 2020

Join us for a conversation with various Abiding Presence members about what it means to be faithful followers of Jesus and citizens of our country.
9/21/20 Roger Runningen – Life in the Press Corps: How do you understand/report on a Presidential Election?
10/19/20 Lori Rowley – Global Food Security: We are all in this together.
11/16/20 Ed Linz – Teaching Involving Special Needs: How do we do this from a distance?

Kick-Off Sunday Drive-Thru Blessing

Sunday, September 13 from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

We want to invite the whole congregation to celebrate kick-off Sunday in drive-thru style. Come drive through the parking lot at Abiding Presence for a back-to-school/back-to-work/still-in-pandemic-times blessing because these days we could all use a bit of blessing! Students and adults are encouraged to bring their electronic devices to hold up in the car to receive a blessing, too. We’ll have blessing stickers, September “grab and go bags” for Sunday School and “acolyte at home kits.” The staff will be there to wave from a safe distance and say hello. There will even be some surprises along the way as you drive. You don’t want to miss this event!

Please consider bringing non-perishable food donations for our food ministry. You can see the list of most needed items here. We will have volunteers waiting to unload donations from your trunk as your drive thru.

We will be asking everyone to please stay in their vehicle as they drive thru. If you would like to roll down your window to say hello, please plan to wear a mask. Watch for the signs at the entrance to the parking lot so you can tune your radio to our official “Abiding Presence Parking Lot Radio Station.”
