Kognito - Online Suicide Prevention Training for Interacting with At-Risk Youth
September is suicide prevention month. If you work with children/youth and are interested in short, engaging trainings that help prepare you for potentially challenging conversations, check this resource out:
At-Risk for Middle School and At-Risk for High School are research-proven training simulations designed to prepare concerned adults to:
(1) recognize when a young person is exhibiting signs of psychological distress, and
(2) manage a conversation with the young person with the goal of connecting them with the appropriate support.
In these 1-hour online trainings, users enter a virtual environment, assume the role of an educator, and engage in conversations with three emotionally-responsive virtual students that exhibit signs of psychological distress, including thoughts of suicide.
These trainings can be taken in more than one sitting. Although the training simulations are based in a classroom, the information provided and practice skills gained are applicable across many community settings.
