Mary Grace Niemi, 89, of Springfield, VA passed away peacefully on Friday February 16th at Greenspring Senior Living. She enjoyed over 5 years of active, independent living before transitioning recently to Long Term Nursing Care as her health declined.

Mary Grace was born and raised in Erie, PA. Married to Paul in June 1956 they moved to Cincinnati, OH, their home for the next 49 years. Faith, family, friends, and service to others were the center of their lives and they carried that with them when they moved to Fredericksburg, VA to be closer to family in their retirement.

She lived a life of service, as a longtime member of the T.T.T. Society, as a Stephen Minister, and through her love of quilting to support vulnerable children and families. She was proud of her church families, proud of her children, their spouses, and her grandchildren, and loved being a great grandmother too.

Mary Grace was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Ellen Owen, sisters Jean Fleming and Patricia Radaker, and her husband Paul.

Survivors include her brother Thomas Owen (Andrea); children Michael Niemi, Stephen Niemi (Cathy), Susan Brantlinger (David), and Robert Niemi (Lynn); grandchildren Benjamin Brantlinger (Becky), Joseph Brantlinger (Erin), Sydney Cannada (Briceton), Caroline Logazino (Richard), Emma Thombley (John), Kaitlin and Cassidy Niemi; her great grandson Owen Brantlinger; and several nieces and nephews.

A service will be held at Abiding Presence Lutheran Church 6304 Lee Chapel Road Burke, VA 22015 on Saturday March 23rd at 3 PM. The service will also be livestreamed on this page the day of the funeral.
