Christine was a proud New Yorker, born in Freeport, Long Island, and raised in Brooklyn and Queens. Her childhood, while happy, was also challenging as it encompassed the Great Depression, World War II and her mother's extended illness which temporarily separated their young family. She graduated from Richmond Hill HS and, as a young adult, worked as a secretary for Schrader and Company. During this period, she greatly enjoyed being reunited with friends and family members who were absent during the war. Also during this time, she was introduced by relatives to Raymond Fischer, an enterprising young Army veteran. They were married in September 1954 and moved to an abandoned Federal Era house in Rosedale, Queens, which they renovated. Chris and Ray enjoyed post-war suburban life, raising their daughters, Christine and Karen, becoming active in Christ Lutheran Church and School, traveling in the summers to many east coast destinations, and eventually establishing a second home in rural upstate NY near Redhook. In 1970, she became the proprietor of Fischer's Ceramic Studio, teaching classes to Rosedale residents up through the 1980s. She and Ray retired in 1989 and moved upstate full time.

In 1997, Ray became ill and they moved to Northern Virginia to more easily access medical care and the support of family there. They were warmly welcomed at Abiding Presence Lutheran Church in Burke and quickly became active members. After Ray's passing, she was very active in the Church's ESL program, helping newly-arrived citizens acclimate to the English language and everyday life in their new country. She came to truly cherish this experience, especially the friends and knowledge of different cultures she gained from it. Christine enjoyed her life in Burke, participating in many activities with her family, including time spent in the Northern Neck of Virginia. She leaves her daughters, Christine (Allan) and Karen (John), devoted granddaughters Darcy Acquavella (Joseph), Chloe Adler Sheehan(Terrence) and Molly Adler Mauri (Antonio), and her six beloved great-grandchildren Laila and Gabriel Acquavella, Samuel Sheehan and Madelyn Gossack, and Maximo and Andres "Baby Rey" Mauri, who will feel her absence keenly. She also leaves her friend and co-mother-in-law Florence Adler, and many other friends in her church and community.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Christine’s church, Abiding Presence Lutheran Church. They can be made online at AbidingPresence.net/give and choose “Memorial Gift” with Christine’s name in the memo. Checks can also be mailed to 6304 Lee Chapel Rd, Burke VA 22015.
