Seminarian Heidi Eickstadt
Abiding Presence Vicar
2015 - 2016
I am excited to serve at Abiding Presence this year and to grow in my understanding of myself as well as God's call in my life. I felt God was calling me to be a pastor since the age of 10 but it is a call with which I wrestled for a long time. Looking back, I see God at work during that time, accompanying me in my unbelief and guiding me through the Holy Spirit to a new understanding of God, my faith and myself. I am so grateful to God for working in my life to bring me to a place where I am able to accept my vocation and to serve the church as a minister of word and sacrament.
I am originally from Iowa and am the oldest of four. I received my B.A. in Political Science from Luther College in 2003. My husband and I moved to Virginia in 2007 and I graduated from George Mason University with my M.A. in Political Science in 2010. I am a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Springfield, VA, where I served on the Congregation Council, assisted with youth ministry and taught confirmation class. My husband Ike and I have been married for 11 years and ˙we live in Woodbridge, VA with our dog and three cats.
I attend the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia, where I am pursuing a Master of Divinity with a concentration in interfaith studies. Last summer, I completed one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) at Rutherford Regional Health System in Rutherfordton, North Carolina.
I am grateful for the chance to learn and grow here at Abiding Presence. I have a passion for social justice as well as young adult ministry and lessening the stigma of mental illness in the church. I look forward to sharing these gifts at Abiding Presence and to how the Spirit will be moving in our work together this year! I welcome you to contact me with ideas, concerns, questions or thoughts!
